Senior Accountant Job Description

The Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in an organization's financial health. This position is responsible for overseeing accounting functions, maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing insightful analysis to support management decisions. The Senior Accountant typically works closely with the finance team and reports to the Finance Manager or Controller.

Job Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
• Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, providing variance analysis and recommendations for improvement.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations affecting the financial practices of the organization.
• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities, including reconciling accounts and resolving discrepancies.
• Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely and accurate transactions.
• Prepare and file tax returns, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and optimizing tax positions.
• Conduct internal audits and assess internal controls to identify areas for improvement and mitigate risks.
• Produce detailed financial reports and analyses to support strategic decision-making by senior management.
• Train and mentor junior accounting staff, providing guidance and support to ensure accuracy and adherence to best practices.
• Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits and provide necessary documentation and explanations.
• Stay updated on industry trends, accounting standards, and regulatory changes to maintain compliance and optimize processes.
